Poll: How much food prep should be done ahead of time?

Music softly playing...

Table set...

Candles lit...

Guy in a meticulously-ironed-but-now-messed-up-collared-shirt (these istockphotos kill me)...

Dinner on the table... or not?

For the first or second home-cooked date, how much food prep and cooking should be done ahead of time?

  1. It depends, though. If it's an informal come over after work thing I would plan a quicker recipe and not necessarily do any prep ahead of time beyond shopping. If it's a weekend and the host has time to prepare, some prep ahead of time is nice to make things run more smoothly (and my kitchen is tiny, so running smoothly is important!).
